Coarse contamination and sliding friction in the contact zone between the sealing lip and the counter sliding surface can cause deep wear marks on the counter sliding surface and other damage over an extended period. In the case of shafts or sliding surfaces with large diameters, SKF recommends using LDSLV shaft repair sleeves (Large Diameter Sleeve) instead of costly reworking of the shaft or sliding surface. This applies especially to applications where SPEEDI-SLEEVE shaft repair sleeves are no longer available, i.e., for shafts with diameters over 211 up to 1,150 mm.
The large LDSLV shaft repair sleeves are custom-made by SKF upon request. The dimensions are tailored to the specific repair case:
The application range of LDSLV shaft repair sleeves covers all cases where challenging operating conditions affect the seals, i.e., where solid contaminants can enter the sealing lip area, such as in cold or hot rolling mills or chemical plants.
If wear on the seals and damage to the counter running surfaces is to be expected from the outset, SKF recommends including LDSLV shaft repair sleeves in new designs. For repairs, this eliminates the need for shaft reworking and ensures that an original size seal can always be used as a replacement.
