Rolling Bearings for the Food Industry
The food and beverage industry faces specific challenges:
Continuous operation around the clock, very high speeds, recurring cleaning cycles, durability, low friction, and sealing of bearing solutions (lubricant inside, contaminants outside), demanding requirements for food safety and increasingly for sustainability. Depending on the application, the bearings must withstand extreme temperatures, moisture, chemicals, and mechanical loads.
They are used in various designs across many systems in food production and packaging industries, for example in product fillers, conveyor belts, as well as folding and gluing machines.
Rolling Bearings: Construction and Types
Rotary rolling bearings are used to guide rotating or swiveling machine elements such as wheels, shafts, and axles. The rolling elements primarily consist of balls, rollers, or needles.
Deep groove ball bearings are the most commonly used rolling bearings – also in the food industry. However,
cylindrical roller and
tapered roller bearings are also applied.
To meet the high requirements for hygienic standards, there are special bearings made of corrosion-resistant steel (stainless steel), ceramic bearings, and rust-protected flange bearing units.
