The labyrinth seal is a non-contact shaft seal. Its sealing effect is based on the lengthening of the sealing path by the alternating arrangement of rings on the shaft and the stationary housing part.
Under demanding operating conditions and at high speeds, the use of labyrinth seals is therefore recommended. Labyrinth seals are rings made of steel with two radially arranged labyrinth ribs, which form a narrow sealing gap with the housing grooves. Silicone rubber round cords inserted between the labyrinth rings and the shaft ensure that the loosely fitted labyrinth rings rotate with the shaft.
