Tapered roller bearings consist of solid outer and inner rings with tapered raceways and tapered rollers with cages made of pressed steel sheet. These bearings are not self-retaining. This allows the inner ring with the rollers and cage to be installed separately from the outer ring.
Metric and Inch Dimensions
Tapered roller bearings are available in metric and inch dimensions. Bearings with a K in the designation use inch sizes. For new designs, bearings with metric dimensions should be preferred.
